Star of Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, Vanessa Williams wed her partner Jim Skrip with a lavish ceremony on the 4th of July of last year. However it wasn’t the Carmen Marc Volvo gown or Luxurious Rolls Royce that had the guests talking but rather the invitations. With intricate laser cut detailing which mirrored the lace on Vanessa’s own gown and a touch of 14k gold, the design was truly fit for a Queen.
Considering the couple met whilst cruising the Nile, it was only fitting that the Wedding theme be Royal Egyptian; Think luxurious gold details, exotic belly dancers, striking hair and makeup and of course Egyptian décor. Working closely with Vanessa herself, UK based wedding invitation Company; Adorn Invitations worked for numerous months to create an invitation design that paralleled the extravagance of the actual ceremony. The actual Inspiration and creative process took just over 2 months with the team creating numerous mood boards with images inspired by the theme. With a background in graphic design, Adorn hosts a number of creative minds who were able to come together to produce a truly unique product.
Once the final design was settled on, the production process took no longer than a couple of weeks. A rich colour theme of Marsala and highlights of gold were chosen for the design. Intricate laser cut detailing enclosed the invitation and a 14k gold lotus flower sealed it off. The chosen colour of Marsala was featured as Pantones colour for 2015 and showcases Adorn’s knowledge of current trends in the bridal field. With printing machines dating back almost a century – Adorn mixed several inks together to create the perfect shade of Marsala and with an eye for detail – the design team also included details from Vanessa’s own gown onto the invitation. By hand drawing the lace design and scanning it into modern computer software, Adorn were able to delicately laser cut the intricate detailing onto the golden metallic paper enclosing the design.
A Romantic detail
During the Inspiration process, the team had discovered that the Lotus flower held a special place in Vanessa and Jim’s relationship symbolizing luck and new love and of course there was no way that the team could resist involving this memento in the invitation. Using 14k gold, each individual invitation was fitted with a small lotus flower emblem for that extra touch of luxury. The flower was the perfect greeting to each guest welcoming Vanessa and Jim’s new, blossoming love.
Vanessa could not have been happier with the final outcome saying that it “was truly a piece of art.”
With Vanessa’s blessing, the beautiful design will be put into production at a lower cost later this year. Head over to Adorn Wedding Invitations to view their exclusive design range.
